South Molton Neighbourhood Plan

Traffic Management and Parking

Key Issue

A large proportion of older properties in South Molton lack off-street parking. This results in parked cars lining many streets; causing problems for emergency vehicles and large lorries.

Objective

To make a welcoming environment that is easy to navigate, quiet, clean and stress free. An experience that people will want to repeat.

Policies

TMP1:

Protect and visually enhance existing car parks in a central area as identified on the proposals map.

All new build properties will be expected to provide adequate car parking as detailed in policy H1a.

TMP2:

Contributing positively to the achievement of a western distributor road, which is design to support heavy vehicles and has safety measures in place to protect nearby residents, will count positively to the assessment of a development proposal.

The provision of the western distributor road would mean that all vehicles not needing to visit the centre of town would be encouraged to use this route; alleviating the pressure on South Street, West Street and the centre of town.
